Superfood Supersnob

I have been searching for the ultimate smoothie mix, one that doesn't require combining a bunch of different ingredients (goji, lucuma, maca powder, chia seeds, etc) like a blender science experiment. Not that I don't have fun with my morning smoothie creations.

Essene started carrying Raw Superfood Protein Smoothie Mix from Essential Living Foods. A quick scan of the ingredients and I was sold. Superfoods are my preferred day-starter.

I mixed my first smoothie with soy milk, frozen strawberries and banana, and a scoop of cashew butter. It was chocolatey and shake-like. I felt immediately energized (this was long before I had finished my morning coffee). At 75 calories, 5 grams fiber, 5 grams protein per 2 tbsps of mix, I was sated for hours.

If only the American smoothie bar would just get it and stop loading up their drinks with honey and intense protein powders that provide way too much protein. I never enjoyed smoothies before I started making them myself, selecting ingredients that made sense, and now I know why. This mix has all of the items that I would put in a smoothie, minus the cold things.

How would you say the taste compares to Vega? I found Vega to be truly disgusting.

Interesting. I might have to check this stuff out since I am almost out of Vega.

Vega is more of a vitamin/meal replacer and is much higher in calories than I would suggest for an everyday smoothie. I've checked it out but haven't tried it. You don't really get a powdery taste with the Superfood Mix, it just tasted like fruit and chocolate (keep in mind that I did add fruit to the blender).

This product is interesting. I usually make my smoothies only with fruits/veggies and sometimes some nut butter. I think adding something proteins and antioxidant couldn't hurt, especially if it adds a chocolaty note!

I'll have to try that! I've been using Gensoy vanilla protein powder, mixed with whatever fruit I have in the house (usually strawberries, blackberries, and a banana) and fat-free plain yogurt. If I remember, I add some ground flaxseed because I'm convinced I can't taste the difference anyway so I may as well get the nutrients.

They also sell a chocolate flavor at Essene made with raw cacao and guarana...I might have to try that next.

I've been looking for a good smoothie mix-in after being stuck on one of the protein heavy ones (not Vega) while cleansing/detoxing last week, and I was really unsatisfied with it. Not the cleanse, but the protein mix in.
Good suggestion, I'll have to try it. The cal/protein composition is my style
