Crazy-Sexy-Cool Superfood Smoothie. With Maca!

The Crazy. Maca powder, on its own, is not the most palatable of superfoods.

The Sexy. But I find that paired with chocolate (maca chocolate bars, oh my) it's a rather enticing treat. It increases energy, enhances the libido (and treats impotence), stimulates fertility, regulates the hormones, and is abundant in minerals and fatty acids.

To incorporate it into my diet, I've been varying amounts in my smoothies. The perfect amount is 1 tbsp (more than that and the maca flavor is too strong) for a single serving. But I wouldn't use any more than that because of how potent it is. You may want to start with 1/2 tbsp and work up to 1 tbsp.

The Cool. The result? A lively chocolate banana smoothie that will snap you out of any energy slumps or hormonal mood swings.

Have you tried maca? Does it do anything for you?

Hey girl, just wanted you to know I've been reading your blog. Your posts are fun and your photos are fabulous. This smoothie looks wonderful. I do have maca on hand and don't use it enough. Just might have a maca smoothie this morning after my work out!

Thanks JL! Let me know how the smoothie works out for you. I might try the maca in some overnight oats next.

I just found you blog, and it has inspired me to track down and use some maca! I can't wait to try out this smoothie recipe (as well as some of your other ideas!) Thanks for making me more excited about my transition to veganism!

I found your site via the gluten free zuccini bread recipe (which I will be making soon). I tried this recipe tonight since I had all of the ingredients on hand and it was awesome! I never thought to put vanilla or maple syrup in a smoothie. I did add some ice to make it colder. Can't wait to try some more of your recipes. Is there a way to easily tell if any of them are gluten free?

Thank you for a great recipe. This recipe has a really nice nutritional addition with hemp powder. Maca as an early morning wake up smoothie is a great choice to boost sleepy energies or kick some energies during tired afternoons.

Thanks! I bought a $25 lb bag of Maca Powder at Whole Foods but can't figure out what to do with the darn thing. This is perfect for my sweet tooth.
